From time to time, we try to find the latest convertible laptop in the 14-inch 5000 series and take it for a ride. So far, we're not happy with what we've seen, because the machine's previous iterations were either too thick, or too heavy, or their displays weren't on the level of 2-in-1 machinery.
And when we got Inspiron 14 5406 2-in-1, we really thought it was going to be different. However, year after year, model after model, Dell has been making the same painful, anti-consumer choices that we can't understand from a technical point of view. Now, the base model of this device comes with Core i3-1115G4, which is not really a bad CPU. However, they are combining it with 4GB memory, 128GB SSD, and 768p TN panel. Then, under the table, they're slimming Windows 10 into S mode, and voila, you get a tablet. Also, a tablet has very limited storage. Of course, you can get out of S mode at any time, to get the right laptop. More on that later, but before we start testing - at any rate, skip the base model.
Plus, you can get the most out of this laptop with the Core i7-1165G7, and even opt for a dedicated GPU. Which, of course, made the video an overnight sensation. And if you are calm, you will definitely go for the 1080p IPS panel. Truth be told, though, we've never had a high-end display in the 2-in-1 Inspiron 14 5000, so we doubt we've got one here either.
